Pentium D 820 Died? - Page 2

most motherboards will not post if the CPU is bad. It will ether throw beep codes at you, or just sit at a black screen.

I would start with a different video card and see what happens...

But with the HDD lights flashing, but no video, this tells me that the CPU is fine and it is more likely your CPU or motherboard. You mentioned that you used a dry brush to "dust" your PC. this is really bad, brushing your motherboard can cause static electricity which is just bad for computers.

I would say first candidate, motherboard. Second, video card, and third, CPU...

A larger Cache in a CPU will most definately help the C2D architecture is also alot better than the architecture in your Pentium D so you will benefit alot just from the architecture change let alon the larger cache.

ok. i had just removed my cpu n turned on the system. the screen shows nthg, hdd light not on. i installed the cpu back, still nthg showed on the screen, but hdd light is always on, no beeps, cpu fan running, cpu heatsink is hot, NB and SB heatsinks are hot too.
i removed the graphic card and reinstalled it. cables all in their place.
so is the cpu or the mobo is down?

The Mobo will not post without a CPU anyway...so that kind of test would never work in the 1st place. Its your CPU.
