New Processor

Thread Starter
Hello friends, I'm looking for some opinions and suggestions with a new CPU. I'm upgrading this old B3 to get rid of my CPU bottleneck for my video cards. The B3 I have clocks ok and hasn't done me wrong so far. I'm currently bidding on a QX9650 as that's the only one I see with a 9 multi... I'm wondering if I should be looking to get something else and save the money and still get rid of the bottleneck I currently have now.

Thanks
Luke

I'm confused....bottleneck? In what regard...?

Bottlenecks only exist at lower resolutions (3DMark is a prime example). I am surprised your using a 22" display with a TRI SLI setup to be honest. I wouldn't bother with the QX9650 imo, get a Q9650 due in April sometime.

I agree with Mhill, get a Q9650 or a Q9450, the Q9450 has slightly better performance at stock than the Q6600 and can OC higher, and I can bet that the Q9650 will do you even better. You don't really need the unlocked multi of the QX9650 unless you're trying to break records or simply want the best there is.

Is the QX9650 the same as the Q9650 except that it's locked at 9x multi? What about price though?

It's got a locked x9 multi, making overclocking a lot easier from a FSB point of view. The Q9450, Q9550 aren't even worth looking at imo, they require a lot of FSB to get anywhere with them. The Q9650 may be expensive though....but come April i do believe that the Q9550 could come down in price as well as the 65nm variants. The trouble is there is no set date for the Q9650 at this time.

Well I'm still shopping for a 30" monitor to be honest. My 22 is at 1920x1080. The tri sli is was to help keep a nice even FPS number lol... So I didn't have to worry about studdering in games. I like it to be a full reso with all the pretty features enabled.

A 22" with 1920x1080!!!Is that a real monitor or a HDTV set?But still i can't believe there's a 22" with that resolution.

if $ isnt an issue why not just get the QX9770

if your lookin to spend 1000 for a cpu, whats another 450?

if i had the $ id be able to justify the purchase and sleep like a baby, but just not that well off financially..

Im still confused how your bottlenecked with a quad anyways?

This is the monitor I'm refering to. I checked and the reso doesn't say 1920x1080, but I will take a SS when I get home to show you what I have it set at. Reguardless as soon as I do some more research I'm moving to a 28"-30" I just haven't found something that stood out yet.
