6800gs question

from what ive heard its a good card. is the 6800gs enough to play some modern games? my pal is looking to upgrade from his current machine to something with some more muscle. (he has a 7300gs 1gb of ram and a sempron 3100 1.8ghz) looking around on ebay i found a PNY 6800gs for $35 and an Athlon 3200 2.2ghz for $20. also a 1gb stick of ram for $20. with that setup do you think a 6800gs would be able to tackle games like Oblivion, tf2, bioshock and assassins creed? thanks for any input!!!!!

It is a great card!

Overclocks nicely, but you need to ditch the stock cooler first, unless you want to boil water on your card, well almost.. (did go up to 90C though)

Oblivion runs decently on medium settings. Can't say anything about the other games, but it handles Crysis on low settings

I'm so proud of it

But why not upgrade to something better?

sounds good. he would get something better but its complicated. lol hes 16 and has to get his mom to get it for him, so the upgrade has to be simple and low cost or else she just wont listen. i just now got her to trust me with her computer (after the "computer guy" they have messed up their computer and i had to fix it). but i think 1.5gb of ram and a 2.2ghz athlon would be enough, i just dont know about the card, but it sounds like it can hold its own

I think it'll serve him well with that Athlon.

And just for $35..? Go for it.

I think paid about $300 for it

I've recently put my old nx6800gs 250mb back on my comp while my card was being fixed. I was playing cod4 at 75 fps - though a lot of stuff was either off or minimal.

oc'd to 510 ~ 1150
