advice needed for Q6600 mobo/heatsink

Thread Starter
Right, bit vague I know, and I apologise if I've posted this in the wrong forum, but I'm after some advice. I'm looking to get a Q6600, and I plan to overclock it. I've already got a Scythe Ninja Plus Rev-B that I want to use, so I need a motherboard with enough space around the cpu socket to accomodate it. Obviously, the board needs to be a decent overclocker, I don't want to push it too hard, but somewhere towards the 3GHZ mark would be nice. Due to the size of my HSF and the mosfet coolers, Asus' more expensive P5K boards are out of the running (I'm not intending to do any modification, I know you can fit the Ninja to the P5K, but it involves a bit of bodging). o, any suggestions? Ideally, I'd like to spend no more than about £110-120.

Cheers in advance.

My DFI Blood Iron (P35) is a great overclocker and it fits a Tuniq120. I'm not positive it fits the Scythe Ninja, but the Tuniq is pretty big. I'm sure someone here has a Blood Iron AND a Scythe Ninja... it's a very popular board.

I'd go with a P35 motherboard. Awesome overclockers. Got mine up to 465fsb no problem, and I've had it boot and run 3dmark at 500fsb, but not orthos stable.

just to make sure i'm on the right page here (been a while since i was involved in building pcs), this is the board you're referring to jeffries? - http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=7257 if so, it looks like a bloody good choice. gonna investigate the other suggestions too though.

What? why 780i or 790i. The 780i is a complete waste has a little improvement and the Northbridge is "enourmous". The 790i is overbudget too and no reason cuz he's not gonna SLI.

if you haven't bought the q6600 yet make sure you get a g0 stepping (i actually emailed the company i got mine from to make sure). im sure you already know this but its very important if you plan on overclocking. the xfx nforce 680i sli is a good board. ive gotten my q6600 up to 4ghz with my watercooling setup. the one in my sig is the lt version. its missing a few things but its around $150 (got mine on sale for $100). for air cooling tuniq tower and thermalright ultra 120 extreme are by far the best ive seen from all the review out there.
