Power supply for new build

Thread Starter
I'm building a new rig and I'm going with the 780i board to go 3-way Sli. My question is a 750 watt power supply going to be enough for 3-way sli or go with a 850 watt power supply? Here is what I'm looking at:
Thermaltake or Coolmaster?

it depends on what cards you are going to use.

I've ordered a EVGA 8800 GT! And I'm going to buy another one to sli for now.

You can see here that Quad SLI with two 9800GX2 cards and the rest of the system came to a peak of 630w at load. Should give you atleast a reference point, but as was already said it depends on what cards you plan to use.

So either will do pretty much, 750 or 850? Well eventually, in the next few months or so I'll go triple sli, around August. Thanks for that link Jules, that's very informative!

GT can't do 3- SLI. It will be better to get a 850W PSU. Don't know about your budget, Silverstone DA850 is a very good PSU. If you are still looking for a 750W PSU, then Corsair 750tx is a good value PSU.

What's this? So you're telling me that the 8800gt's can't support 3-way sli even with a 780i motherboard? Bull!

I run two 8800 gt's on an atec trio 650 watt.

If you are getting power hungry cards then look towards a 1k psu. Especially if you overclock at all.

If you get a 750 watt with single rail you will be fine doing 2 cards in sli.
