ECS 9600gt- quality?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about selling my 8800gt in favor of a 9600gt since I really don't need the power. I was looking through newegg and this caught my eye. Should I worry at all about ECS quality? The only experience I've had with them is with their motherboards, which suck IMO. Would the overclocking potential be any lower than say a EVGA or XFX card?

My co-worker has one but he doesn't do OC thou so I don't know. It work fine as far as I know. There are many good brands of 9600GT at similar price.

Indeed they do make terrible mobos, it probably carries over to gpu's as well. Judging by the reviews on newegg they're not so great.

You can pick up a xfx 9600gt for the same price, so why ask?

Edit: Hell, the xfx version is 5 bucks cheaper!

When you factor in the price of the accelero cooler (~20$ minimum) it comes out cheaper.

So of MSI, XFX, or EVGA which would be highest quality? I've always liked EVGA but since they're all in the same price range I though I should ask- especially because there's probably nothing good to look forward to as far as stepping up goes from EVGA.

The stock cooling is more than sufficient. I got all my clocks maxed and it peaks at 52c under load.

Unless you're doing heavy volt modding its not worth it, even then its kind of a wash..

Alright, thanks for the info. I assumed these things ran as hot at 8800's.

Assuming I can sell this 8800gt I'll probably pick a XFX 9600gt soon. I might end up waiting until the new RV7xx ATI cards come out- they look pretty nice imo.

First things first I gotta sell this baby. Now I just need 20 more rep lol

EDIT: what fan settings do you have for those temps, and how loud is it?

50% - inaudible, 47c idle
70% - barely audible, 71c under load
100% - gets washed out by my zalman / game noises, 52c under load

The die is smaller than 8xxx series, so 70% probably isn't such a good idea

I run my 8800gt with the bios volt mod at around 70C load @65% fan =/

I did reseat with AS5 though- Maybe that makes a difference? I thought that the 9600 ran considerably cooler than than 8800.
