White (when no green or black is present) is a standard for "low" (or in this case ground) for most wiring applications, but it should carry current just as well as a blue one. No biggie, just industry standards

EDIT :: Just saw he said blue as ground, and I'm not sure why that would be... Oh well! It doesn't really matter.

BTW, I'm looking to make an S/PDIF digital coax cable to go from my soundcard digital out to my amp. While this gives me away as a digital noob, would the cable you used in your example work, and what type of connector would I need? I believe they're RCAs that are used, but I wanted to check... Thanks for the guide, sweet pics!

No, I believe S/PDIF cables use coaxial cable, something like the cable your TV uses for it's cable signal. And yes, RCAs are typically used to terminate them. No, I have not made one, and to be honest, I'm not sure how, as I don't have a need for it. Perhaps Soloz can chime in???

SP/DIF uses a 75-ohm coaxial cable. You could use standard analog video cable too, as it's also designed to be 75 ohms.

white for signal, blue for ground sounds better.

you need coax for spdif IC. technically you need 75ohm plugs as well.

Here's the one I made up. Used the Canare L-4E6S and switchcraft connectors.

The cable is super flexible, really nice stuff.
