xfx 780i, won't boot from SATA

strange thing happened, yesterday i got home from work and got presented with a black screen, strange as it was i rebooted, went through post and sat at a black screen again, weird as this was, i checked the BIOS and all drives could be seen including by primary the sata disk. Assumed the disc had gone bye bye and confirmed this when i could boot form an old xp IDE disk. Tried repair from disk and it still gave a black screen when repairing. very bizarre.

Went and bought another sata disk today and this wont allow windows to boot from the disk and reinstall on it, although it shows in the bios. I can only assume my SATA controller on the board on is dead?

Should i RMA? i dont want to take it back only to find they test it and blame some piece of my hardware???

try installing the bios again. reflash it with the same one or a newer one if they have one.

Are you saying youre primary hard drive is a sata, or the optical drive you are using is a sata. I only ask because I am tired and could be confused, but I do know that there are a ton of people having issues with sata optical drives.

My primary hard drive is SATA, my optical is IDE. It's on the P03 bios and has worked fine for ages, and now neither of my SATA drives will work in any sata port. It's back at scan now, they're going to test and RMA today hopefully, i'll update later once i know. I've ditched my SLi now and gone 9800gx2, so thinking about going p35 or x38/48 possibly. Not had a good time with oc'ing etc on this board either.

Have you tried another SATA cable? I had an issue with my HDD and it turned out to be a bad SATA cable. i replaced it, ran the Recovery Console, and had the sytem up and running again in minutes!

Well scan agree that the board has a fault, but are making me wait 2 weeks to RMA through XFX and won't replace it from stock. Bunch of ****ing jokers that place.
