F.E.A.R. x-fi mode switch problem

Thread Starter
I just got FEAR yesterday (amazing game, so far) and all of the sound options are turned on:
Enable HW Mixing
Enable EAX 2.0
Enable EAX Advanced HD

I also have ALchemy running in the background for FEAR.

EAX works great in game, but I've noticed that when I get out of the game, I can no longer switch modes. I can't go back to entertainment mode and am stuck in game mode until I restart.

Any ideas?

This is an inexperienced guess, but do you close Alchemy after exiting F.E.A.R.? I don't remember where I read it, but it strongly suggests closing ALL programs that use audio before switching.

From what I understand, ALchemy is only active during the game, so when I exit the game, ALchemy should close as well.
I have other ALchemy titles, but this is the only game that has the problem.

Oh, then F.E.A.R. is exited, press ctrl+shift+esc to bring up the Task Manager (it's just a very quick way to do it). Look for Alchemy's process, although I don't know what the name of the process is. I have a hunch that it doesn't close like a user would expect. If this is happening, then all we can say is "dumb programmers".

old thread I know, but this is defiantly an alchemy related issue(I have an auzentech model, and auzentech drivers). I figure I update this in case someone like me hops around looking for it.

Only way for me to switch modes(I had an even worst problem where a restart would not even cut it, but before that problem would be fixed with restart) was to
1. load the alchemy x-fi control panel, "uninstall" alchemy from all the games in your list then delete them all.

2. Open task manager, get rid of "Creative cleanup".. you might see alchemy cleanup flash by as well since you just messed with it but ignore that.

3. Viola, now you can change modes on the fly again.
