8gb of DDR2 pc6400 or 4gb of DD2 pc8500? - Page 3

1000mhz rated ram is just overclocked 800mhz cherry-picked from the manufacturer, if I were you get 2 of those 2x2gb g.skill kits oc them to 1000 and there you got 8gb for 160.00 of 1000mhz ram. Responsiveness on x64 is quite faster I have 6gb mismatched that gskill kit and ocz plat rev 2 you couldn't con me to remove the 2gb of ocz either. my 2 copper

Yeah I know hehe, what I'm trying to say is flip a coin, or go for whatever makes him feel better, cause there's no difference lol, although like the poster above me said, I'm leaning more towards 8 gb because he won't need to worry about ram for a long long time!

I'd have to go with 8GB as well. RAM speed has never been important to me, maybe because I don't notice any difference.

OK, so we have come to somewhat of an agreement yes?

It seems that if you want to future-proof your system, you will go get yourself 8GB.

If you want the quickest set-up, you will get 4GB of 1066 RAM because of it being slightly faster, and since you won't use over that, it wouldn't help much to have more ATM. (I have 6GB and I've never gone over 2.5 yet)

If you want a compromise, you will go with what Dolo is suggesting, you will have 8GB of pretty fast RAM. I have one of those kits, and it is working great so far.

Why not get two of these kits? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231145
That's what I have, and they are happily sitting at 510mhz. Not that big of an overclock, but it's enough for me

Okay now I have a question and a dilemma. I am looking at your Everest scores and mine are better, but I have 4GB of 667 memory running at 700Mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings on a E6420 overclocked to 3.2 Ghz

I was thinking of getting 8GB of the PC6400 that can be overclocked to 1000mhz, but now I am wondering if I would really see an improvement or not. I was mainly thinking of upgrading because the 667 is holding back my OC and I thought DDR2-800 would perform better.

But if I am seeing your scores right, then that isn't necessarily the case. I can't get to my home machine right now to link the results, but on the Top 3 rows my scores are couple hundred better than yours(your first one is 8300ish and mine is 9400, the rest are about 400-600 better)

So now I am confused.

I have 1066Mhz and 4GB of it.

However I have it downclocked at 800Mhz 3-3-3-8 with a 1:1 ratio.

It shows no difference in performance being at 800 instead of 1066Mhz at all.
