After 6 Hours, I'm Miffed. Please help. - Page 6

Go to seagate's website on a friends computer and get their drive tools for dos:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...oads/seatools/

Run the long test, not the short one. If there are problems there's a good chance this will fix them. I recently had some similar problems when pushing my overclocking a little too far and corrupting the hard drive, this fixed them right up.

Well, at my friend's house it didn't load the XP disk good at all either. All the tests that failed for me also failed for him.
Vista or XP didn't even see the hard drive in My Computer, so I assumed it was broken.

I hope it is the hard drive, which it sounds like, as I have already ordered another HDD. For the record, this time it's a Western Digital 16MB 500GB one. I heard they're good.

Cato, I haven't actually tried that test, but I will just for good measure. If not, I will RMA the Seagate drive and have done with it.

Surely it couldn't be my hard drive if my friend's computer came up with exactly the same errors.

Ordered the HDD, coming tomorrow.
I hope it is the hard drive that was broken.

Ok Suzanne. After reading through all the posts and noticing random failures of HD's or BootCD drive I'm wondering if you are running the E6750 at stock speed or overclocked? Try running it at stock (default) settings. And if you have pulled each stick of RAM and tried another HD then it's either the SATA slot (try another), or your motherboard is whacked. Seems like you've done everything but replace the motherboard. Best of luck. ~JadeMiner~

Thanks for the reply, Jade

I have tried the SATA motherboard and the RAM on a friend's motherboard (which obviously works fine) and the hard drive still gives the same issues. Vista doesn't even recognise it in My Computer (despite various setup attempts), let alone say it's failed

So I hope the new hard drive is what I need.

Sounds like you got it covered. With all the various diagnostics and tests; you could probably start a computer repair business after this!

Excellent! If you have any problems please don't hesitate to PM me. I think you'll find that the folks on overclock.net are definitely the friendliest and the most help people on the net. *crossing fingers*
