Competition from Apple in the MP3 player market, increased competition from Logitech in the peripheral market and multi-core computing, to name a few.

It's been like this for a few years now. It's just that it was not that apparent due to lack of heated competition like today. Creative has always been evil. Remember A3D?

Well I would think that competition would make for a better product

94 pages of hate on the creative forums.... Forbes predicting as much as a 30% drop in Creative stock between opening and closing bells on Monday

Dump your stock if you got it, buy some on Tuesday if you don't

See AMD performance market, dedicated Physics, and 3Dfx, to name a few.

Hmm... I don't think there's a lack of competition in the sound card market sector. C-Media makes far better APUs, in my opinion. Creative might have a certain edge in gaming, but this kind of specialization isn't enough to cover up the product's deficiency in all other areas.

I do believe, though, that Creative has definitely got the loudest marketing presence. Loudness seems to be the only virtue they have, in fact...

I have to say that my X-Fi worked fine on Vista x86 when I was using that back in the day. However, this is really bad form and so is the fact that they stopped working on Linux drivers.
