In relation to the RAM....if you go over 800 Mhz try and lower the timings to something like 5 5 5 15. This way you may ensure your system will not be unstable because of your RAM. As a general rule i would make sure the RAM stayed @800 or under....after i achieved the desired o/c on the CPU...i would start fiddling with the RAM.
Now in relation to your CPU....try and go up by small increments on your FSB and leave the multiplier at 9. If your system is unstable, turn up a notch on your v-core and try again.
Test your stability with Prime95....get your temps by using CoreTemp and Everest...they are brilliant programs.
Hope this helped

I hit a FSB hole at like 1455-1475 Try to go way above what you have been trying until it will post and then start to go backwards to see where you're hole is at and then move from there for stability.

Edit: For instance I went straight to 1510 when 1455 didn't work and it posted so then I worked my way backwards to see where my FSB hole was.

for 3.2, youre gonna have to bump the voltage a bit unless he has a good chip. make sure to run the mem at a divider because im sure that the mem will be running over 400 MHz.

well we got it to 3.2 but with some weird temperatures, and 3 different programs giving us different readings, all very different. I will post pics tomorrow

What's his specs and what tests are you using?

Another Phoenix Kid! Woo!

First thing I would do is start working your FSB up at stock voltage until it no longer runs stable. Then start bumping up voltage until it becomes stable again. Repeat until 12ghz and NASA is calling you asking for help on next mission. Then fiddle with RAM. RAM is where I get confused in the whole overclocking world...

I've got q6600 G0 SLACR with a asus p5k-pro board running 1.4v in bios, showing 1.35~1.32 vcore under load. Bumped up the cpu pll to 1.7v, fsb termination to 1.4 and NB voltage to 1.55. Currently the settings are 9x360 and my ram's @ 731mHz with settings of 4-3-3-9.

I didnt change any of the ram settings before i set off with the overclock like yanis said, until i got the system stable at 3.24 ghz with some occt and prime95 testing. occt hard and fast for 1 hr, if it passed that then i let prime95 run all night or when i went away to work for the day. at least an 8hr run is what i was aiming for to keep it stable. temps were in the ranges of 52-57c, idle im look at 30c or under. I could have overclocked the ram, but i preferred the tighter settings under the 800mhz mark instead of loosening them up that much for a little mHz bump, plus my ram's not all that great but you could probably do better, maybe even running it at 1066.

Some chips and board combos can handle 800x4=3.2ghz with everything stock or just a little bump in vcore only. unfortunately i couldnt even come close since i had some kind of weird fsb hole around the 398~401 mark, so i just lowered the fsb and bumped the multiplier. Not the best thing to do i know but my system runs faster than at the 400x8 setting i previously had it at. Plus im air cooling with the antec nine hundred case at these speeds so im happy, not looking to break any records or anything...hope this helps, best of luck.
