Q9450 - High Idle Temperature - Page 3

My build requires a Q4..naturally I was thinking to go 45nm for decreased temp/voltage. I would hate to have to reconsider due to a faulty temp reading.

*Most users that have these over at XS are using sub-0 cooling..so its hard to compare their results. [more frustration]

If its any consolation I'm having this problem as well with my Q9450. I think its simply the programs haven't been configured to read it yet.

Core Temp reads
0 57
1 35
2 53
3 53

Speendfan beta 44

0 53
1 31
2 48
3 48

But weren't these 45nm CPUs supposed to run cooler than this?

All 4 of my temps change, which is better than having some locked, but starting with 51,44,49,47 (latest Core Temp) and getting to 62,56,60,58 under Orthos stress isn't my idea of cooler. That Peltier cooler I couldn't afford is sounding more necessary than before...

my q9450 is running fine now after experiencing the same problems as you guys. I didnt reseat the heatsink or anything else. I just left it running for 4 days I think and now the temps are reading normal I believe. Maybe it needs to break in? lol my idle temp now is in the low 20's and load at mid 30's. I am using a hyper 212 with dual fans to cool it.

Hi guys,

just wanted to say that my core temps are also strange. 37 - 39 - 47 - 42 on idle. Never over 60 on load, though. And the base of the heatsink isn't even worm.

Thats high for real temp readings. Are you sure the hsf is seated correctly?

I'm sure I get false (false as in 'too high') temperature readings, because there's no way my tcase would stay at 40 C (I touched the base of the heatsink, so I'm sure my tcase is correct) on full load if each core would be somewhere near 55 - 60 C.

And Intel only specifies the optimum CPU temperature (tcase), they never talked about coretemps, so could it be that most of us are a little too paranoid?

A little off topic, but does the Q9450 offer a significant difference over the Q6700? ^^ Thanks

5 - 10%. I would keep/buy a Q6700 once the price goes down.
