Can I disable ctfmon.exe?

Is it possible? it drives me nuts because not only does in not go away when I end-task it, it also runs two iterations of itself (32bit and 64bit)

i know its a small app and it probably takes up virtually no resources, but i like to keep my # of running processes at or below 20

You sure can! Just type this into Run (WinKey+R, or Start Menu, click on Run):

regsvr32.exe /u msctf.dll

Then you'll get a little dialog box saying "DllUnregisterServer in msctf.dll succeeded." Click OK, and then if you want to reboot to be sure, then feel free! You'll never see Ctfmon.exe again.

You won't need it.

It's for the Language Toolbar. It's basically something you'll never need.

Here's a quote I found from one of the many sites I found by Googling ctfmon.exe.

"When you run a Microsoft Office XP program, the file Ctfmon.exe (Ctfmon) runs in the background, even after you quit all Office programs.
Ctfmon.exe monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies."

Here's Microsoft's bloated, way-too-much-information kbase article on it: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q282599

I know; I'm getting carried away. But I'm having fun.
