Cleaning the outside of a rad....

Hey I just want to know if its ok to use normal water to clean the exterior of the radiator... I guess its, but since the exterior of the radiator is also made of coper but painted, i just want to know if there is any problems...?

Sure you can Made, just be careful if you use a high pressure hose not to bend the fins...

If the rad is painted like you had mentioned, it should be alright to wash in a sink or bucket with a mild soap soaking and then a rinse.

HOWEVER, plug the open ports so that the tap water doesn't mess with the inside. If not, corrosion inside could happen.

If you want to clean the inside of the rad, use 50% distilled water and 50% distilled vinegar mix. This is easy to do. Many of the Bunn coffee makers follow this mixture to clean out liquid lines and heating element. I've done this for years.

Just watch the high pressure, do not use a pressure washer. Those fins bend very very easy and you have to be really careful.

Hot soapy water in the sink with a spray nozzle is about all I'd do. Maybe a garden hose with a spray nozzle, but even that I'd watch the nozzle and jet action.
