American made motherboards

I've took part in a few discussions about whether there are any motherboards from American companies that are actually manufactured in the United States. It seems there are some people interested to know. Well believe it or not, there are. There's an American company called Chassis Plans that manufactures different Intel based industrial boards that have support for Pentium 4, Pentium D, and Core 2 processors, as well as DDR2 memory. They've got a pretty good warranty plan too.

Here are some of them from Chassis Plans:

Yeah, I agree, just like any other country, it would help if we were exporting more than importing, and yet we're not. We have skilled workers and many resources, all we need is to use them.

mth91, it's a mystery to me why there aren't that many American MOBOs in the US market. I mean, people have shown that they'll pay a high amount if the quality of a board is good. And there are even those from other countries that want American products.

@ Emmanuel. That's not a bad idea. I don't know if I'll be able to upgrade to an American board if it doesn't have the latest proc support like my Asus.

But outsourcing is cheaper.....

Most things that are made in America are more expensive, but better quality (don't start a car debate). Unlike everything that is made is China which breaks. If you don't live here you might not understand. I mean like all kinds of non-computer related hardware and such. I'm interested as to how well these are made. If they have a good warranty, that's a plus!

America... ---- Yea!

I agree with what you said here. They do supply the military, so at least they don't have to get all of their electronic gear from China. About the quality, well, I only know of one person that uses a Chassis Plans MOBO and he says the build quality is very good. Apparently though, they aren't designed with much OC potential.

Hmm maybe they're afraid of jumping into that kind of market but I think they should.

I think part of the reason is at that point people will start trying to ask for $15-20 bucks and hour plus fully paid insurance, 100% matching contribution to a 401k up to 10% of your paycheck and so on.

so that 200 buck mobo now just turned into a $350 mobo for the company to make the same profit per board.
and yes I know maybe a little bit of a fish story.

the other problem is the start up cost I'm sure are damned high

That's why they don't list a price next to the boards. They don't want to scare you with the price.
