Read the thread on Vista and RAM.

The caching thing is good, if you are talking about the search thing, then yes, I would disable that, but superfetch or anything is amazing.

As for needing more RAM when you have 2 gigs.. Your crazy. OMG Vista is taking up so much RAM! Well, try playing a game and check on it, it scales, so if you have 1 gig it will use 400 mb, 2 gigs, 1.25 gigs, 4 gigs, 2 gigs. If a program needs RAM, Vista will reduce its self and free up RAM.

Macrox256, don't screw with stuff if you don't know how it works.

Page files are like a larger RAM supply, and are used by many programs. Yes you made it a smidge faster by making it stored in RAM, but did you notice how all the other apps probably were slow as death? Also some apps REQUIRE virtual memory, and won't work without it.

Disabling your page file = bad idea.

RAM is meant to be used!! If you need more, the OS will deallocate things.

the caching thing is good but i want to reduce it, or change it so that it dont take 50% of my ram when a app would like to have that 50%

i know paging files, and i said already many times that im not gonna disable it, but i did it once to see the difference in the performance of swapping from a heavy active process to a idle process

i know,
and the Os does that, but in my opinion it shouldnt put inactive processes to paging file when theres still ram not used by processes..
