Temps arent to bad. I am assuming that is stock. Full load should not excede 60c

He is at stock, yes.

Temps aren't bad, but given his low estimated ambient temp and the rest of the information he's given, I believe the temps could be much better.

Considering the typhoon is about $45 @ the egg, I was hoping for much cooler temps. I'll fiddle with the heatsink and cooler. My other concern is the cluster of components on the back side of the board underneath CPU. The insulator and adhesive backing are stuck right to it. I don't think it can help any...

I've always been happy with my Big Typhoons. In fact, my current sig rig had one mounted on it; with far worse ambient temps and overclocked dual-core Opteron, my temps are better than yours are. Of course, I've got no IHS on the Opteron, but nevertheless the point I'm trying to make is that the Big Typhoon is a very good cooler for your CPU, in my opinion.

Something else other than the heatsink is the reason for your higher temps than expected... Focusing just on the hardware side of things, I'm inclined to think that perhaps the junction between the core die and the interior of your CPU's IHS may not be optimal.

You may be right. My brother told me that one of the two cpus he gave me came from a number of fried boards. Could have been PSU, or something else, but who knows. If it's the chip, I'm hoping the typhoon can help cool it down.

wow, i'm going to have to look that up. From what I've seen is that they can run anywhere from $40 to $200. They're pretty fun too, you can get the temperature of the top of your car at 50' LOL

here's one on amazon... one for cheaper

I think your analysis is correct. OCCT shuts down after 15 minutes. In PC Wizard CPU temp reached 45C, and the cores made it to 56C & 52C. Is there a way to pull the top off this thing???

I just put in the 3200 single core Venice (LBBLE 0543XPMW) and its core is running @28C with the CPU at 43.

I'm scrubbing the mating surface with 91% isopropanol each time til there's no residue on the cotton swabs.

Guess I'll overclock the Venice to start with. Anyone have some 4000+ DDR ram?

You can take the lid off of S939 chips, yes. It just takes some nerves, some knowledge of how deep the cuts should be, a steady hand, and some patience.

(If I wasn't in a hurry, I'd link you to a couple of online guides on how to do it. But there are PLENTY of resources available online on taking the IHS off of a S939 chip.)

(My sig rig's CPU has its top off. )

Once it's done, I also recommend you take the extra step and cover up the delicate little ICs lining the periphery of the naked die. I used black electrical tape to do the job.

I've attached some pictures to illustrate the point.
