8600gts Vs. 8800gts - Page 3

if you are just looking to replace your 7600gt than an 8600gts probably wouldn't be a bad choice.

cheap ones are about $100 and can handle games just fine. Most people just want to play all of their games on the highest settings and get the highest benchmarks so they just instantly kick the 8600 to the side

All in all its a good budget card, but if you want to play a few games down the road you should probably go with a 9600gt or 8800gt.

If money is not an issue, i would reccomend the 8800gts 512mb G92

You could pickup an 8800GTS 320, they are only $150 off EVGA's B-stock. Or one of their other nice cards, like an 8800GT.

Only issue is that they have a 90 day warranty.

Not really. I had one, maybe a 10-20% performance boost over my stock 7600GT. NOT worth it for the $100 I payed for it. I immediately stepped it up to an 8800GT the day they came out, best purchase I have ever made.

I got a PNY 8600GT cause it was on sale $75 from its original price and for only 1 day so it was a pressure buy. I dont game but i still love this card. Ive beat it up and it still hasnt died on me. Plus its good with temps. I watercool but still. Now that prices have gone down it 8800 might be better but if you dont game then dont spend the extra cash, plain and simple. Its like if i offered you a 4 cylinder or an 6 cylinder and you told me the speed limit in your neighborhood is 30MPH. Also their right i would put the money towards a new CPU and/or mobo rather then a new GPU. If you dont game even your current GPU is fine. Your CPU will give a bottleneck for a 8800 though. Its ur money so its up to you.

8600GTS is a decent card, mine maxes out just bout everything. when i first got it i was like "OMG THIS CARD PWNS THE BIG ONE!". only to find OCN, and learn what crap it was compared to the 8800GT.

SO get the 9600GT or 8800GT.

If you run at a high res. Say 1600x1200 then the bottleneck will be reduced drasticly.

Single 8800GT.

Volt modded, lightly overclocked, even stock, it isn't very far behind an 8800GTS.

Great at 1600 x 1200 resolutions, beautiful card.

Plus its $200 ish, so you will have some money kicking around.
