leave speedstep off for now. I would try 3.6ghz first, then if stable try 3.7, ect. Take it up nice and slow.

Dude you've gotta work it up slowly!

Start low at STOCK voltages, and move the FSB up! When the computer starts hanging or B.S.O.D.ing, then move the voltage up to where it is stable again.

Repeat!

1.6v... WOW. Depending how long it ran at that, it may never do 4Ghz stable ever. I came from Soc939 to this system 3 days ago... but geeze... do some research first. You can't just pick a voltage 'at random' unless you're willing to replace parts.

FYI thats about the equivalent of using 2.275V on a 65nm chip

Ok sir. I did just that and after 362.5 FSB (stable at stock voltage) there's no way I can get stability whatever voltage I apply. Another thing, next bootable FSB after 362.5 is 475... what's up with that FSB hole?

What's holding me back doesn't seem to be the vcore tbh...

What should I do now?

I think many people got confused with VID and Max Vcore it takes..
Max Vcore INTEL stated with C2D Processors is 1.60V and Max Temp 70
but I suggest you stay below 1.55V and 65.
I am pretty sure that your chip is just not able to reach 4G, if all the setting is correct.
My x3110 is 4.1G with 1.525V max Temp 65 with lapped CNPS9500

He has a 45nm CPU, not the 65nm cores that can take 1.5v vcore.


Please dont recommend 1.525v vcore to those running a 45nm CPU. There are more then a handful of people who damaged their E8400s running them at 1.4v vcore! The reason why people are sticking to the vid is because those who have been running them over 1.3625v vcore have been damaging them. FYI the white papers claim the absolute max vcore on the 45nm to be 1.45v, and even then, Intel claims cpu damage can result.

This is just one example out of many:

E8400 Crapped out! YAY!!!!


These are just for reference, but I would not recommend going over 1.3625v on the wolfdales.
