hi guys i was wondering which would be the better laptop to buy.

Choices:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220277
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220273
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...pk=Asus%2bF8SV

Im looking to be able to play COD4,warcraft 3, CS:Source , Battlefield , along with some new games. Also is cod 4 a dx10 game or dx9?

Thanks if you guys have any better choice of laptops please suggest.

I would go with the gateway FX that is a killer price and they really struck gold with that laptop.

The Gateway and the third Asus (F8SV) get my approval. If you want a real laptop, as in one you'd actually carry around, I'd suggest the Asus. If you want a machine that sits on your desk in your dorm room and you just use it to game, get the Gateway.

Seriously, the Gateway is a huge machine (17"). It may be too big for practical portable use.

I like the 14" screen Asus laptops. The 9500 gs is basicly the 8600gt, exact same specs just renamed. Like already stated the gateway will blow away the other laptops but you won't be able to take it anywhere so don't bother with it. Good luck with your choice

first of all it depends on what u are going to do with it. i lug my 17 inch wide around if u can get the gateway. if u want something portable u going to lose performance. i think my pentuim M 2.0 ghz and a 7800gtx owns the 8600 and a core2dou. nvidia has admited that having a slower cpu and a way faster gpu is the cheapest way to get high performance cuz the gpu take all the load. look into buying used laptop much cheap and u get alot of performance for the buck.
u can get a dell 9300 with the same specs as me and get alot of performance for the buck i play all the latest games on decent settings.

The 9500gs on that Asus has DDR2 memory so take that into account. It has a much lower clock speed and a lower max memory clock speed so even if you oc it it wont get anywhere close to the GDDR3 speeds. Hence lower performance.

I would go for the gateway. I have it and its amazing. Money well spent. Its one of the better deals ive seen in a long time. Just get yourself a nice laptop bag if you wanna carry it around. I just bought the Slappa Velocity Pro Spyder V2 as its been getting rave reviews.

Good luck with your purchase

yea and plus theres room for easy expansion. It's really easy to add a new processor later on. You can also add another Hard drive for raid, or replace the 1gb stick with a 2gb stick of ram for 4gb!

Check out the thread on this section of the forums that deals with the FX series.

It runs fine, you're gonna want to do a clean install once you make the gateway backup driver disk. Once you do the clean install you reinstall all the drivers using the disk. Just make sure you dont use the preinstalled nvidia drivers as its a really bad driver. Right now im using the modified 169.61 drivers from the forums at www.laptopvideo2go.com
