Think again before you blindly choose Creative

Thread Starter
I was reading some forum threads over at Tom's and I came across this link to another forum over at Creative. I began to read this and became absolutely disgusted:

http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=1

I've owned Creative products all my life. They have generally worked very well on 98, 2000 and XP. I have yet to try Vista on my desktop for many reasons, but this is just another to add to the list. As it turns out, Creative is aware of a flaw with some of their products and Vista. A guy decided to make a software package that would allow users the functionality of their Creative sound cards with Vista, accepting donations for his work, fixing the issues they were having. The first post of the thread is from a Creative Corporate VP telling the guy who developed the software to remove all of this work and posts he made in their forums, giving him no credit for what he did and leaving everyone who depended on his software with a sound card that would not work on their OSes. This is a huge slap in the face to not only the guy who helped everyone with his work, but to all Creative owners. If you own a Creative sound card I would suggest reading at least the first few posts. You may react differently than myself and others in the forum, but I will never buy another Creative product again.

I have highlighted issues in your post.
Unfortunately, Creative were quite right to remove his posts.
These are my points:

Daniel K did not MAKE the drivers, he simply hacked Creatives drivers and changed some settings.

OSes? just Vista. They still work in Vista, just without the hardware acceleration.

By asking for donations, he is, in effect selling Creatives work for personal profit

Creative have spent many years improving and updating their hardware. They have many coders working. Daniel K came along, MODs their IP, and then asks for money for it. How would you react if you were creative?

It's not 'all Creative owners'. Not me, for a start. I knew the risks, I knew that vista's sound stack had changed, and I have no problem.

Next time, before you claim that Creative had simply taken down some guy's work, check out whether those drivers are open-source. then take a look at this page, and then you'll work out which drivers you can modify.

There are enough posts about this. Too many in fact, lol. The first of which isn't getting any views now, which proves a post title says alot.

Creatives drivers and software do not work properly for vista, and there is plenty of snap, crackle and pop to go along with it. I bought a fatal1ty with breakout box and was disgusted they're Asio driver is BS I was looking for a commonground for my small home studio and my gaming. 220.00 Later which I recoupped 120 on ebay. I Spent 450 on a Digidesign M Box 2 All my problem were gone. Oh and If the prices drop I will get a Asus Xonar soundcard and will never ever give Creative any of my hard earned money. Plus i really cant tell much of a difference from my Asus Daughter card and that Fatal1ty anyways(
My 2 copper. Thanks to Daniel K he has helped many a person BIGGUPS
