Hi, I have an amd anthlon 64x2 5200+, w/ stock cooler, and an amd 580x mobo. Here's my problem, whenever I start up my computer i get 6 beeps, indicating cpu fan failure. Thats what it says too when i start up. It will display the message for at least 7 seconds which slows down my start up time about 10 seconds. It has a black screen where it beeps. Well neway its not that long but its annoying. My cpu isnt over clocked, the plug is in the slot, and the fan spins. I dont have a clue as to what it could be. I even tried plugging the fan into a fan speed controler but then quickly unplugged it when the fan didnt spin. lol Well ne help is apreaciated.

EDIT: You guys seem to be a load of info so can u help me on this post too? Thanks.

The fan might have a defective RPM sensing wire.

If you're certain the fan actually does spin up and operate normally, I'd just go ahead and disable the fan sensor in your motherboard's BIOS. There should be a setting there (look under Hardware Monitor or something similar) that reports on CPU Fan RPMs that can be disabled. Most of the motherboards I've played with have this setting.

Hope this helps.

Ok thanks sounds good. Lol was looking to give u a rep point but it appears u dont need it lol.... But im still giving u it. Hey do u know if i could/would be able to overclock my cpu on stock hsf? I can only check the temps through bios at least i havent found a program for checking the cpu temp yet. Lol got one for me? I dont think it gets hot really.

I'm not sure about your exact CPU, but any CPU out there van be overclocked at least a bit on stock HSF.

Tools to read temps in windows (there are more, but these seem acurate on most mainboards/cpu's):
- Core Temp
- HWMonitor

You can OC on the stock heatsink. How much you can do that before panic sets in, well... no way to know until you do.

In all seriousness, the stock HSF should allow at least a modest overclock. But your temps will climb, for sure, the higher your speed and the more voltage you put into the chip.

As far as a free temperature monitoring program goes, you can go with CoreTemp. Mind you, I haven't used it myself for a long time (I use Everest Ultimate, but this isn't free), so I can't vouch for how good this latest version is; the last version I used, v.95.4, was good and matched the readings I got from Everest Ultimate.

Good luck!

Try to keep it under 60C-65C if you're going to OC.

On full load that is
And Core Temp works ok, it sometimes crashes in Vista if you use other monitoring tools at the same time. I always use HWMonitor these days.

Ok thanks for the links. According to core temp my core #0 is at around 33 and 34 c. And core #1 at 28c. This is at basicly idle. Ati ccc is running and a messenger and internet. Thats all. So u think i can do an oc? And how can i do it. Ive seen it in my bios but never had the balls to touch it. The hole voltage thing and multiplier gets me scared.

Those temps seem nice (you might wanna check what HWMonitor says to be sure). So a .2Ghz overclock should be no probs, but test your current setup under full load first. You can use OCCT or Orthos for that

You can overclock by upping your FSB or Multiplier (just use search, there are plenty posts about it).

Occt
Orthos
