I can't wait for these to come out just so I can laugh at all of the GX2 early adopters.

So you can get back at those for laughing at you? on that horrendous 3850 purchase I presume lol

Seems it's all a crapshoot lately. If you have the money to buy the latest and greatest really who cares, I certainly don't. Many will buy the 9800GX2 then just upgrade as well when these proposed new GT200's come out, I don't wait for things to pan out, not in the PC world, waiting is useless and you usually miss the boat with new technology turn over anyhow, I thought everyone was rich? bbl, going to pick up my 9800GX2

Exactly, history repeats itself. They went from the halfway decent upper 7-series to the crappy lower 8-series, and the same thing happened with the upper 8 to the lower 9.

Horrendous? I love my 3850!(Planning to go CF once I can find one for MSRP.) Amazingly for us Canadians the price for the 3850 has actually INCREASED since launch! The cheapest models are over $180 on NCIX

So I guess I get to laugh at you for dropping $600 on a card that not only offers little to no performance over last year's SLI models, but will be horribly outdated before you can even pay it off

GeForce 9800 GX2 and GTX will have a short lifespan since they will be replaced in a couple of months time.
And... I'll be skipping these cards as well. Let's see what they can come out with Q4'08/Q1'09.

Although I would love to hop on the bandwagon and buy a new GPU, i'm not in the situation that I was a 8 months ago when I NEEDED a new card. With Crysis, Bioshock, WiC, Cod4, UT3, GoW etc coming out last fall, I had to get a new card. The cards out now seem like they are only for benching whores that get off to 400 extra 3dmark06 points.

I'll wait...the only gamed I play heavily are CoD4 and WC3: TFT and they both run at 90+ FPS on my 88GTX.

The octo-core Intel processors are SERVER ONLY at this point.

Proof

See under "Cores"? Only the "MP Server" processor, codenamed Beckton, has 8 cores. I believe this is the new edition of their Itanium processor, which is only used in very high-end servers. The rest all have 4 cores or less. The sad thing is that all the new server, desktop, and mobile chips are collectively referred to as "Nehalem", so many people get confused and think that the octo-core is a Desktop processor, when it is not.

It's sad, but true. Desktops just simply don't need more than 4 cores right now.

Heck, I probably don't even need a Quad core, but who cares about what I "need". I still want as many cores as possible!

I'm laughing with you.

I built this computer last summer, so there's no way I'm gonna rebuild it 1 year later. Maybe some people have plenty of money, or "generous vendors", to upgrade every time the hardware improves by 5%, but I don't.

I probably could buy like 1 computer every year, but it would be a waste. I'll save and/or spend the money elsewhere instead and wait for something significant. Maybe like 2000MHz DDR3 with Nehalem/Sandy Bridge and ATI HD 4/5 series or NVIDIA 10 series, or whatever these things end up being called. I'll probably get the itch to buy something sometime next year, but maybe not. We'll see what kind of things await us.
