eSATA on Asus P5B Deluxe

Thread Starter
I asked this in the hard drives and storage forum, but didn't get any response, so I thought maybe this would be the more approptiate place for it.

I just bought the Antec MX-1 eSATA drive enclosure (great product, btw). Would it be better to just connect it to my mobo's integrated eSATA port and run it on the JMicron controller in AHCI mode (there is also an IDE DVD drive being run on that controller) or use the eSATA back panel bracket that came with the enclosure and connect it to an internal SATA port on the Intel controller (currently set to RAID mode for other drives)? Does it make any difference? It seems to be working on the JMicron, but I just want to make sure performance isn't limited in any way. Maybe I just really don't like it being listed as an IDE device on the JMicron controller during boot up. It's SATA 3.0, dang it.

You're probably safe doing it either way. If you disconnect the drive while the computer's on however you might want to research the hot-plug capabilities of each of these controllers.

The DVD drive isn't going to affect the performance of the eSata drive significantly.
