what if you routed the output from something like that (but a cheaper one) to the inside of your computer? sounds like it would be sick cooling

well direct would be bad but say have the vent form a ac unit close to the pc would mean cooler air drawn in so great air cooling. But yes condensation will make water and water in side pc = bad. Solve that issue and its all good.

For less than that... get a phase unit. It'll be cheaper, cooler, smaller, harder, better, faster, stronger...
Once again...

wouldnt you imagine that if AC was running inside a PC case ,that presumably it would be a lot cooler than the outside ambient temps... I cant see how this could be any other way, and also with all the heat inside the case you need to factor that in too..

You would burn out the compressor, tho it would take alot longer than a fridge since they are designed with a 100% duty cycle. They are not, however, designed to cool a constant heat load like that, and much prefer to cool down an area and then randomly flip on/off as needed. Also, condensation would be a *****.

Aside from that, it'd work damn good. Try using the air conditioner to make the room the PC's in nice and chilly, ittl make sure both peices last as long as possible and your Q6600 doesn't need to test out it's water wings...

air conditioners are designed to run for extended periods of time. an old family friend used to cool her huge house that was a couple thousand square feet with one single window air conditioner and it lasted for years lol. as long as you ported the cold air through the case then condensation will not be an issue (http://www.atxcases.com/item.asp?category=91) they wouldn't be selling these if they got soggy :-P . if your willing to experiment you could do a basic water cooling setup and have the cold air go through the case and then exhaust through a radiator. sure the temp would rise after crossing all the hardware but if you have a small enough case then i imagine the air flow would be fast enough that it really wouldn't matter that much
