AMD's stock chart / finance news: http://finance.google.com/finance?q=AMD

Whole article (It's pretty short)
Quote:
AMD (NYSE: AMD) is trading off today and is not much above its 52-week low. The reason may be a note out of JP Morgan picked up at Barron's. The analysis sees AMD missing its guidance and revises down the bank's estimates for EPS.

No one should be surprised. The company has not been talking up its quarter. AMD still issues fairly worthless press releases almost every day, but CEO Hector de J. Ruiz has not been very visible.

If AMD misses the first quarter and guidance is poor, the stock could slide to under $4. At that point, the company might even get itself sold to Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) or another company that would like a toe-hold in the x86 market.
The article discusses AMD's lackluster quarter, and suggests that nVidia might buy it up if stocks slide too low. It would seem to me that that sort of action would prompt anti-trust calls, as nVidia and AMD are truly the ONLY major players in the graphics market. Intel or S3 would have to majestically enter high end discrete graphics for an nv buy of AMD to make legal sense.

Is there any way at all the stock holders could give Ruiz the boot?

Antitrust authorities? What antitrust authorities. They haven't blocked a merger in years. AT&T got bought by SBC and then bought Southern Bell - and barely a peep. NVIDIA could buy AMD easy in today's enforcement climate. High end discrete graphics isn't a big enough deal.

Besides, Larrabee and S3 are both able to jump in if prices go up.

Intel I don't think would be allowed to buy a primary share in AMD stock because of agent theory problems (that is, nvidia could either 1) run a monopoly 2) make a negative impact on AMD to boost sales).

I work for JP Morgan so I'll keep you updated if I hear anything.

I have doubt even Hector Ruiz could take down Intel.

I think that Intel and VIA do enough business in the integrated sector to let Nvidia purchasing AMD slide.

I really dont think that nVidia is going to buy AMD. AMD has to much debt for nVidia to swallow right now.
