Questions About Upgrading Computer in the Near Future

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted on here since I had to sell off my 8800gt a long time ago, but I've decided I'm ready to get back into computer gaming. I haven't been keeping up with the latest news so I don't really know whats coming out and when.

I was hoping I could get a few suggestions from a few of ya'll on when would be the best time to upgrade my computer. I plan on selling my E6550 and then purchasing a new cpu, but I have no idea when the best time to do this would be. I also want to purchase a new gpu but once again, I have no idea when the best time to do this would be.

If I could get a few suggestions I would be highly appreciative!

Are you on a budget?...Either way, if I were you, I'd make sure, I got a 45nm CPU as they will serve you better when OCing. Expect the new Quad to be pretty good ( BUY HERE ) As far as GPU you can choose one of the new GX2's or wait a little bit more for the 9800GTX if you're on a tighter budget.... See what other members suggest

Well I'm looking to spend no more then $500-$600 total. I'm going to college in the fall, so this is going to be somewhat of a graduation/going to college present for myself.

I was thinking about buying a Q6600 for around $200 when their price drops soon, which leaves me no more then $400 to spend on a gpu. I might even put off upgrading my cpu to get a new mobo, psu, and a gpu. Yes I know the higher end gpu may bottleneck with my current cpu, but it would only be temporary.

Your plan sounds good. I'm not sure how much the 9800GTX will sell for, but they might be worth waiting for
