this topic come sup at least every hour and each person has their own preferences. right now i have no reason to upgrade to vista. In the future i probably will but right now XP works just fine for me.

that's also mainly because i use ubuntu x64

clearly you havent played Bioshock on xp and then on vista with Directx 10. Very different, the water looks...uh like water its very cool. I bought vista on ebay when everyone on this forum was saying it was horrible. But it was good for me got vista business x64 for 60 bucks lol

  1. The new GUI, Aero, is far more stable than Luna (XP) and allows for faster navigation of the computer.
  2. Instant Search - Allows for the rapid search of programs and files.
  3. Vista's Computer Management is awesome, allowing you to resize partitions, see problems with your computer, show the reliability of your computer, and many other tasks.
  4. Windows Update is much improved in Vista. It also updates drivers for you.
  5. SuperFetch uses unused memory to load programs you are likely to use.
  6. Vista includes native implementations of IPv6.
  7. Vista allows for the function of more than 3 PCI Express video cards.
  8. User Account Control, however annoying, is very effective at preventing malicious programs from taking control of your PC.
  9. Bitlocker Drive Encryption prevents someone from tampering with your computer before it boots.
  10. Windows Firewall is 10000x better than XP's firewall. It has outbound packet filtering.
  11. Address Space Layout Randomization randomized system files in the memory making it impossible to predict their memory location.
  12. Patch Guard in Vista prohibits any 3rd party application from patching the kernell. If it detects a patch of the kernell, it shuts down the computer instantly.
Vista has quite a few improvements under the hood. Especially in security.

For a long time I hated vista, but I have xp home premium on a laptop and over the last few weeks have been falling in love with it. Mostly its asthetic, I love the way windows transitions are when they open and close. With SP1 installed it boots faster and connects to my wireless network faster. I sort of wish I had it to install on my main rig, but with my xp I have no reason to get rid of it either.

You forgot vista x64 is more secure than xp x64
vista x64 has better support
and vista (x64 for me) manages memory alot better... yes yes it takes more but when everything opens instantly with superfetch i think it is great.
