*Waits for 8800GTS 512MB to come down a little so he can score a second for SLI*

Definitely the time to go SLI 8800GTS's and wait for the 9900 series to come out.

20 bucks more for more performance, I would probably bite.

And you can't say it is crazy unless you count 3/4 of the things people do on this board crazy (Q6600 B3 upgrade to G0 anyone?)
They are the same thing... so it isn't worth $20. In fact Newegg is price gouging those 8800GTS's. They are only worth about $220ish which is what they were last week.

A 8800GTS is a 9800GTX. Don't be fooled by them.

Nvidia was 100% smart in what they did. Everyone is falling for the trap and upgrading to the 9800GTX, which is the same thing that they already have.

Horrible idea.

2 9800gx's outperform 3 9800gtx's, and the gx2's cost LESS.
So, you have made a pretty bad decision and I would say to you
to reconsider.

SLI your 8800GTS without a doubt, in the one 9800GTX review they overclock the 9800GTX to 770 core, 2200 memory, and I believe 1800 shader. Most G92 8800GTS's can do over 800 on core, 2100 on memory, and over 2100 on shader so theoretically speaking two G92 8800GTS's in sli overclocked would outperform two 9800GTX's in sli if you managed to get a nice overclock on your cards and it would cost a lot less.

Agreed, sli scaling after two cards is horrible and I would put money on it that one GT200 card would outperform three 9800GTX's in tri sli, and cost a lot less.

some people actually dont care about spending the xtra money for the 9800gtx vs. the 8800GTS. The fact is simple: The 9800GTX operates at a higher core clock frequency, and uses faster memory. If people have the money to spend, then the 9800gtx will perform slightly better then the 8800GTS. You continue to rain on everyones parade, give it a slight rest.

How is $1200 for 2-9800GX2s less than $1000 for 3-9800GTXs?
