modding molex (4-pin PSU) fan into 3-pin mobo fan??

when i built my computer, i modded my Zalman Fanmate 2 controller to ones that will take molex fans instead of 3-pin motherboard fans.

now, with the spare 3-pin fan connector cut-off from the fanmate controller, i plan to mod my cheap exhaust blower into a 3-pin motherboard fan to plug onto my motherboard, for auto fan control.

now, obviously the cheap fan are molex 4-pin for a reason: they don't have speed sensor on them.

so is it possible to simply solder the 2 power wires for it to work? or the speed sensor is required for the motherboard fan control?

Depends. Some mobo fan headers just vary the power to the fan (2 wire) and some monitor speed too (3 wire). If it's a CPU fan header it probably monitors the speed, and will not allow a boot without sensing that the CPU fan is running.

the reason i WANT to mess about with mobo is because i want to have the fan automatically controlled by the motherboard. Abit's auto fan controller is the best on the market.
