9800GX2 = Returned to the store.

Well I gave it about a week or so and about four different drivers, and I decided to return this thing.

In it's present state the 9800GX2 is no where near worth the cost associated. Going from an 8800 Ultra to this, the only thing I noticed was higher overall FPS, but the same minimum FPS and even worse, ungodly stuttering and choking.

Even in games such as Sins of a Solar Empire, the 9800GX2 would choke on just a couple particle effects being displayed on screen.

In Team Fortress 2, it was almost ridiculious. Drastic choking in the water area, and even worse it would get seriously bogged down.

I am not sure if it was a Video Memory issue or what, but at 1900x1200 these cards do not live up to the hype.

The price of an 8800GTX is $289.

Not saying the card is crap, like I said it does have a higher overall FPS in the games I played with it. Crysis was definetly an improvement, but still nothing you would justify the cost of these cards on if you already owned an 8800GTX/GTS/Ultra.

Well, my two cents.

C'mon you already knew the price performance sucked. It was splashed over every review and test.

Also drivers are still pretty early at this stage, and although they suck if you had waited it out you would have seen more gain.

But in the end you did the right choice by getting rid of the thing.

I don't have the 9800GX2, but I can see his point of view. I recently put together my system a few weeks ago. I got an 8800GTX along with a 25.5" monitor. I was planning to game at 1920x1200. I could have gone with the 8800GTS(G92), which was cheaper, yet has a slightly higher maximum FPS in most game reviews. However, I thought the memory bus and only 512MB of video memory could cause problems at 1920x1200 and higher. Even Tomshardware's review of the new 9800GTX mentioned the shortcomings of the memory bus and the memory.

Any upgrade I do in the near future will most likely be another 8800GTX in SLI.

I'm thinking about returning mine as well

I've got an 8500 that I still have a step up on. I think I'm going to use the 70 bucks towards a 9800 GTX

I did? No I didnt. I didn't realize the minimum FPS was going to be the exact same as my other card.

I already did an extensive test in Crysis with this card versus my 8800Ultra. Obviously, the overall FPS was great, and I was impressed with the card at the time. But actually playing games was not fun with this card.

To be honest, another factor was the price at Fry's + tax puts the card at $650.00. I may still get the 9800GX2 later on down the line when there are better drivers, but certainly not from Fry's.

Also, I would need to see that the actual minimum FPS went up. Gaming was a disappointment with this card so far.

That's the one thing that stood out to me.
Minimal fps was the same across the board with the Nvidia cards.
I thought drivers for sure, but even SLI 8xxx series show the same results.
IMO the drivers aren't gonna get that much better.
