Car Audio. Quick guide. - Page 3

good subs and amps (that i use anyway) are Treo Engineering.

obviously pricey, but their ssx line, is the king of SQL setups.

i run an 18'' SSX off of about 4000wrms, close to 1000wrms on my front and rear stage components, in a grand Cherokee. does about 151db, Legal, sealed at the dash, obviously with the new term lab. Buuuuut, when its turned down, it has incredible sound quality.

some good stuff is the stuff you cant buy in stores. eg. RE Audio, T3 Audio, Sundown, Treo, SoundSplinter, Cactus Sounds, FI Car Audio..

avoid audiobanh, sony, mtx, lower end Rockford, lower end Alpine, infinity, pyle, boss, pyramid..

I'm hoping to break 150 shortly. Once I build my half-wall I should be able to.

Wow, all these post about car audio and I have yet to hear anything about some of the biggest names in the game.

Take a look at the following brands:
Image Dynamics
MB Quart
Memphis Car Audio
McIntosh
JL Audio (high end)
Cerwin Vega
Eclipse
Alpine (only the high end)
Focal

if you are looking for sound quality stick with McIntosh, MB Quart, JL Audio, Alpine, and Focal

if you are looking for bump go with Image Dynamics, Memphis, JL Audio, Cerwin Vega, and Eclipse high end

most of these brands are not cheap and are not easy to find, however they are significantly better than some of the brands I have already heard mentioned. I have been installing for business and show for 8 years now and these are the products that I lean towards for quality.

www.sonicelectronix.com

They have very reasonable prices.

ya know almost if you want a relatively cheap quality setup I'd recommend a JL Audio 12W6V2-D4 with a JL Audio 500/1 that is a really solid setup and can be found relatively easily. Plus it will hit hip-hop real well and does trance/techno really well also. This is the setup I had before. JL started making some really quality stuff in the past few years.

Agreed. A decent quality 12" or a pair of 10" in a sealed enclosure will give you tight, responsive bass. I know almost nothing about techno/trance but it's my understanding that there are a lot of fast precise beats. With something larger than 12 or something in a ported enclosure you run the risk of the beats becoming "muddied" into a sort of single rumble. Now of course there are always exceptions, but as a rule of thumb sealed + 10/12 will deliver an excellent bang for your buck. Just be sure to match your drivers to the proper enclosure size (or better yet build your own).

As far as brands I think pretty well everyone has mentioned the decent buys and the ones to stay away from.

Tell me about it - 2 hk401sx's at 1/2 ohm, 4 lanzar opti1232d's, m500xl, opti 5.1 and 6.1's, lanzar vx830 in the back deck, and alphasonik pct6551 in the side panels.

it gets loud I have some cancellation issues, hence the 1/2 wall.

Anyways, back on topic, I sent the guy a link to a crunch monoblock, lanzar max dual 4 ohm 12, wiring kit, and to get the box local. He's looking for extreme budget, and it'll make some noise, as long as the gains are set up right.
