My faith in AMD? - Page 2

IMO, they get bashed because people like to be negative and not positive. Lets face it, people like to be on the winning team and, for some reason, that can go hand in hand with making the loser feel like a loser. It is one thing to admit that one product is better than the other and completely another in how you do it. AMD is down and will have a hard time getting back up. Their products are still very good and I am hoping that they will get some help from the revenue gained by ATI.

Time will tell. People will still act the same way they are now. I bet if you go back and look at these boards when the Athalons came out, it was the exact oposite as it is now. If AMD somehow makes a comeback and overtakes Intel, the same people will have AMD's and be bashing Intel.

edit: The truth of the matter is that Intel sells a better performing product at the moment. AMD has some great budget offerings, but if they don't step it up or get some help soon, it will be a sorry day for all of us.

True.

One of my biggest fears is a psuedo-monopoly

(That AMDs products MIGHT,Just possibly suck so bad that we are forced to buy Intel)

You see, my first rig i've ever built (Im 18) is an AMD machine. After alot of research, I felt the price/performance with AMD is great, but all t3h In3l l33tzors are making me think that I paid for a pile of silicon with **** on it.

haha, if AMD was bought by nvidia we would all be screwed...seeing as how ATI is a sub company to AMD.

where would the market prices go

You'd be surprised how many people were sporting P4s or PDs, saying Intel was the better company, even during the days when the Sandy and Opty 165 were king.

By all means, be a Fan Boi but don't throw reason out the window...

AMD makes a great and stable CPU. It is a great alternative to Intel but the company does not have a product that can compete with Intel...yet. Technology moves extremely fast. Intel has some of the best technology, but over the past 5 years has not really used its leverage to create shareholder value. AMD is not going anywhere. In my mind, Invest in AMD on Wallstreet and buy Intel for personal use.

Keep in mind that an enthusiast can justify $40, $60 even $100 extra to get an Intel quad over a AMD quad. A typical customer does not care about anything but price and will for sure go with AMD.

Young enthusiasts can't remember the last couple of dominance shifts. I have mentioned this many times but the FX55 was doubling Intel's performance just 18 months ago when Core 2 technology was released. AMD had the top performing CPU by a good margin for several years.

very well said. one of the most logical things ive heard all day.

just because Intel is currently making a "better" CPU, doesnt mean that they win hands down. and it has been only less than a year since ATI became part of AMD. from this, we should see the AMD cpu begin to become toned alongside ATI and perhaps see some side-by-side performance increases.

I think AMD has dominated the price/performance market since the K6-2 was released. Duron vs Celeron, anyone?

My 6000+ in my sig rig runs like a bat out of hell and I cant wait till newegg gets a shipment of the new 9850 BE Phenoms in.
They have never let me down and I beat the **** out of them.

AMD lives on...
There's something about running a Socket A which is why I have two of them OC'ed right next to an AM2 and a steadily chugging 939. AMD is affordable performance. I can't wait for the 50 series Phenoms...

I remember those days when the FX's came out and AMD was on top.. But they are still putting out great products. I'm hoping the new B3 Phenom's clock a little better than the first batch of Phenom's.
I could buy either AMD or Intel since the prices are not a problem. (except those Extreme thing's)
We all need both companys so we as end users get great products. Same goes with ATI & Nvidia.. Without someone to compete with who knows what kind of crap we would end up with.

Flame on...
