My faith in AMD? - Page 3

Yeah there is a lot of AMD bashing which is sad but it is undeniably justified. When a $80 CPU beats a $200 quad core in gaming something is wrong.

What I don't understand is people bashing ATI. They aren't the same company! And the HD 3xxx series is awesome. Pure performance counts for nothing if you don't have the interface and technology to back it up. Not to mention the price points they offer are incredible.

In my opinion as long as your machine can do the things you want it to do then your fine
i highly agree my friend.

i just moved by accident really...lolz i asked the sales guy at microcenter if he had any quads at the sale price, i have the funds so..... to me and at the price can you really expect a logically sound person to still stick with AMD at that point?

Im using my AMD 5000+ BE, and It's been smooth sailing ever since!

Except for Vista...

Goddamn you super-fetch.

The BE has been a champ with the overclocking. Did they do any redesigns for the BE?
Or just unlock the multiplier?

The true Intelerites are just getting back for the era when the little guy, AMD, kick the big dogs butt!

There is some solace to it though...

If an Intel CPU can do a true 32/64 bit function, "There is AMD inside" They couldn't do it without AMDs help!

I still run 5 AMD systems, the move to a "Q" was for folding and only for folding.

Be glad there is competition or where would be now!

At stock settings for any given price, the AMD version will be much faster (in terms of GHz) but give roughly the same performance (if not a little less) than it's more efficient Intel counter-part. However, Intel's overclock better and so for us, Intel is the better choice at any price. Intel has the extra advantage given that they control the high-end market. AMD has no offerings to compete with the overclocked Intel Quads and new E8xxx series. AMD has a slight edge in that they offer some CPU's for as little as $45. Intel doesn't go that low in price.

When it comes down to it, Intel is fantastic for Benchmarks as well as squeezing a few more FPS out of games, but most AMD chips will run today's games just fine so Intel's "edge" is more for show than actual need.

AMD has a few advantages over Intel that might payoff if they can fix their flaws. For example, the integrated memory controller is a nice touch as is their improved HT which is great for multi-CPU platforms. Unfortunately Intel released a new platform that set AMD back a couple years but there must be something in the works by now at AMD HQ... right? *fingers crossed*

What gets me is in terms of "benchmarks" K8 is not to far behind considering the tech is over 5 years old.
