Is that not clock for clock though?

IMO AMD is competing fine with intel. Losing but competing. A Phenom can absolutely compete with a Core 2 Quad or Duo at STOCK clockspeeds. And since 9/10 computers are never OCed... you see where I'm going.

If I had the cash I'd buy the fastest Phenom out and OC it however far it goes, about 200 Mhz or so, and I'd make that my gaming rig.

It would be only slightly slower than a Conroe at the same clock, but it would cost much more.

I've been an AMD user and fan for something like 10 years now. But as has been discussed to death, AMD is simply releasing inferior chips at the moment. I've been wanting to build a new rig for several months, but I held out to see which would be the better buy, a Yorkfield or a Phenom. And holy crap, it's just not even a close contest. Anyone building a system today honestly has no choice but to pick the Intel solution, or just admit that they're sticking with AMD only because they're in love with AMD. I truly wanted a Phenom, I really did; but I honestly don't see how buying AMD right now can be considered a smart decision.

I been an Intel User (maybe fanboy only with eye on AMD and VIA) all the time, even in times of hot P4's.
But I would never say AMD suckz.
I should love AMD as they produce the DIEs like 50 km away from me^^

There been a lot people flameing on Pentium 4s the last years, too!
Now most of then came back to intel and now flame AMD.

Also I will not try another nVidia in the near future after hard disappointments with my last 7 series Card.
But I would not go on the web and say "AMD Cards FTW, nV suckz - for no reason".

Just don't give a cent on these guys.
Minds change fast.
If the setup you got rockz for you, what is the problem? ;o)

[EDIT]
I loved Cyrix as well as Matrox (still do for their 2D Quality of Parhelia Chip) back in the days.
But both aren't interesting anymore for serious PCs build.
So be happy that AMD (/ATI) still be no2 or better in what they do !

I have used AMD products for over 10 years, my last Intel (before my sig rig) was a 486 DX2 66

BUT I bought what was the best price/performance (used to be AMD now its Intel)

I bought the X2 3600+ after the E6400 cause it was the best build for my budget (that was before the E2x00 series came out).

Basically I like AMD and have bought them for years cause they were the best price/performance, but now Intel has that.

Basically I buy for me and not AMD/Intel supporter

Warning: this is just a opinion, don't bash me.

I have been an AMD fan ever since the first time my best friend mention about an SlotA Athlon 700Mhz rules all when I was using a Celeron 333
so since that day I have been trying to get myself a AMD CPU but i dunno enough to just go and buy and finally got myself a Duron 750Mhz and was very very satisfied how little money can do so much. ever since, all my "desired" builds are AMD. (been through a few intels, but all due to tough times must have a pc, and was able to get a hand on a P4 that kind of thing)

and I used to look up for ATI, because back then they make their own cards, isn't cheap, but they are always the best on quality, I dunno how to explain but ATi got that CLASS in my eyes back at the time, and I was finally able to get a ATI when I ditched my GF4 MX for a Radeon 9000 and it was excellent.

AMD got that green, ATI got that black and red, and myself as rocker, that really make me feel good, as I feel that AMD/ATI got the characters,

AMD also give me the impression of a Fighter, 2nd place but capable to beat the top guy if the chances' right, like a Hero, Hero gets bash and make come back, Hero was nobody then now somebody.

anyways, this is how I feel about AMD not as company, but as it's existence.

their products always satisfy me in term of performance, and that most ppl don't oc talk is very true, 130 ppl on my msn list, ONLY 2 of them would talk to me about computer hardwares, and these 2 are living elsewhere that one met on youtube. and another moved away after highschool

Duron 750 ->Duron 1.1 -> Duron 1.3 ->
AXP2400+ ->AXP2500+ Barton ->AXP2000+
->X2 3800+ 4600+ and now the 5000+BE

5000+BE + mmm.... let's say my last video card the HD2600/3650 (had both) it is still beat the best computer in my friends cloud(reachable ones) with his Q6600 and onboard video.

this is about balance, I can have the fastest video card but bottleneck or fastest CPU but can't even play Halo1 cause no video card, and based from experience, chances are , most of your friends probably don't even know what a video card do.

will continue to be a AMD fan, but only because i love it, the performance is good, the image is right. whatever happens in the company I'm not gonna get involve,( just like back home(Taiwan) people are so involve with politics, not good, ) as long as they continue to exist, then I'm happy

What i really love is that the fact that most AMD bashers used to be proud loving AMD owners.

I remember killing INTEL cpus with my Athlon 3700
But ever since the C2D came out AMD has suffered big time, And when AMD pops back up we will again go back to AMD and Bash intel. Its just whoever the lower guy is we bash who cares. AMD will have its pride back again
