Kubuntu or Ubuntu + KDE?

Is there an advantage of one over the other? I hear Ubuntu is better overall in terms of hardware and packages... I'm not a "noob" with linux, just uninformed on this topic. Thanks.

if I recall correctly, Kubuntu is simply Ubuntu with KDE already set as the default desktop manager. So, it's really up to you.

I'd say Ubuntu is better since it's the "original." That doesn't go to say that Kubuntu is a "knock-off," though.

Kubuntu probably comes with KDE-oriented apps, so if you're interested in KDE, Kubuntu is probably the way to go.

It does. All of the default programs are based on KDE.

Well there you go then. There's your answer. If you're going to use KDE, might as well get the one that's going to integrate well. Unless you'd like to configure the whole thing yourself, of course.

Note that "GNOME apps" work 100% with KDE and vice-versa.

just go with Kubuntu; as said above ^^, all the apps it comes with are set for KDE so it will be alot easier for you to just skip the whole switching over from gnome to kde step that you would need to take with ubuntu.

Note that most of the KDE stuff in Kubuntu is 32bit native. Not a problem if you use a 32bit distro, but (at least for me) things will start crashing and acting all weird if you go 64bit. The libraries that Kubuntu uses for their 32bit to 64bit translation are seriously f'ed up. I should be fixed on the Hardy release.

Ya, I'm going to install Kubuntu 8.04 beta 64 on my #2 rig. We'll see how it goes.
