Yeah, I agree with both of you. I played HL for...an hour or two? Died to a bunch of headcrabs a few times, then quit. Wasn't terribly exciting. Meh.

If you guy's don't enjoy Half-life and you are only looking forward to games like GTA4, maybe you guys need to join a fraternity together and play some HALO, because judging from you're analysis', you guys seem to be the type who just want to blow things up and "own noobs"
I'm more into strategy games, myself - although I did enjoy Dark Messiah. It had a blah
plot, but really good sword combat.
TF2 looks fun, and also Portal...but I think I'll stick with Ubi games. I like most of them.
Games I loved:
-TA Kingdoms (Awesome story!)
-Outpost 2 (Awesome story!)
-Kohan II: KoW
-Dungeon Keeper II
-Warlords Battlecry series
-Heroes of Might and Magic III/IV/V
-Monkey Island series
-Homeworld/Homeworld II; I should pick up Sins of a Solar Empire!
-Beyond Good & Evil
-Prince of Persia: SoT; TWW was a bit meh, aside from the Dhaka moments, but the third rocked.
There's more that I thought were good games, but I didn't really connect to them as much.
Edit: Oh yes, and I do find BF2142 quite enjoyable when playing with friends.
Edit2: Oh, I completely forgot about console games!... well, this'll soon be a huge list.
