A DECENT console setup with a PS3, 2 controllers and well say 2 games to get you started with a low end television is going to run you 1200 bucks.
Consoles are good for the casual games, hell I have a 360 with quite a few games. But if the controller style games start showing up on PC, ill snatch up a superior Logitech or Saitek controller for PC and game on a superior setup that essentially cost the same as my console setup.
*just a debate - I don't mean harm by it
AS for the 1000 dollars to keep up with a 5 year console cycle just look at my post above.
I have put 235 dollars in my 5 year old Athlon 64 system to update the GFX card in the last 5 years and it still maxes every game out there aside from Crysis of course.
With falling hardware prices in the PC realm its hard to deny.
No harm done, I'm not easily offended so don't worry.
Anyways, you modified what I said about spending $1000 dollars to keep up with a 5 year console cycle. To be able to play on a 22" screen and max out many of todays modern games, while holding a steady 30fps will cost you at least $1000 over 5 years.
Instead, I can buy a $400 console and pay a ONE TIME fee while using my 22" lcd screen to play in HD. You don't need a 37" tv to enjoy the 360. You also say that you spend $235 in the past 5 years and you're still able to max out games. Well, that's still $235 more than any console gamer will have to pay.
Also, consoles dominate the sales in terms of percentages. Video games made a total of around 18 billion last year (somewhere close to that) and pc games didn't even account for 1 billion of that. Now, you tell me console will be dead in 10 years after that little fact and theres just something wrong with you.
