I love how they gave him grief over taking donations, yet those donations went directly into buying more Creative products.

I thought it would be ok to ask for donations so I could buy new hardware to support.

I did buy some hardware: an used Live! 5.1 for ~$15 and a new Audigy SE for $60.

Anyways, I hope Creative comes to there senses and appologizes to him and rewards him for his drivers.
They don't need him to write drivers for their products they work right, maybe if ASUS manufactured some Creative sound cards then this would make sense.

First of all, I would love to see a source that says that Creative put out crippled drivers because of their contracts with certain companies. On top of that, it wasn't even so much that they were disabling something like DTS. Certain cards were seriously hampered by what they did to the drivers, such things as bass management, crashing, etc that had nothing to do with protecting any contract they may have had with the likes of Dolby.

Secondly, the guy got a WHOPPING $200 from donations that he used to buy more sound cards in order to release drivers for them that Scamative would not.

Quite simply, Creative sabotaged their own drivers to make money off the Vista release from Microsoft. They have lied about so many things at this point, and you have to realize how pathetic their driver support has always been. I remeber just a few years or so ago it was a pain in the ass trying to get the drivers from these guys from their website! You had to resort to driver websites in order to get the support you needed.

Creative failed massively, my last Creative product is in my sig, and I may sell it and buy a different brand in order to support a competing company.

I just ordered a Razer Barracuda AC-1 from www.woot.com for $50. It's going into my new system. It may not be the best or it maybe better but am not going to spend any more money on creative after this.
It's messed upnow knowing what they be up to. Disabling stuff so that you go out and by new stuff from them. knowing that some people may not have money to spended.

I think that what most people dont stop the consider is that Creative had every right to post the letter about the drivers, and to ask him stop. The drivers are, in the end, property of Creative. Now I think that the asking of him had alterior motives, what those are I dont know. Also the idea around it being a possible breach of contract has some weight. The contracts with Dolby and others might be the reason.

In the end it was handled very poorly and with no consideration to the users and patrons of Creative. I for one have always bought Creative cards. I have had some issues with them. My old Audigy Gamer died and now I have its repalcement, the Audigy 2ZS. Which I might add I have had for almost 3 years now.

Here is a quote from the letter by Daniel_K showing where creative intentionally created buggy drivers in thier older products when they didn't have to, notice the bold areas:

Quote:
Creative purposedly modified the Audigy drivers to disable some features when Vista is detected and also purposedly introduced some bugs to prevent some XP utilities from running.
I did a complete analysis of the driver to determine where all the checks and bugs were introduced and started modding.
Features that I've successfully enabled:

- Dolby/DTS decoding (originally discovered by another Creative forum member, but I've explained how to use it)
- CMSS, CMSS2 and Stereo Surround (originally only "CMSS" was available, this setting also affects ALchemy/OpenAL, so it is really useful)
- Advanced EQ and Special FX presets
- DVD Audio
- Hardware MIDI synthetizer (I wrote a small utility that automatically detects and changes the default Vista MIDI Synth during driver install or can change it later using its GUI. Some media players lets you choose the MIDI synthesizer)
- Equalizer (with preset saving, very hard to accomplish, had to deal with bugs in Creative software and use my creativity to find a workaround).
- WaveRT (a Microsoft replacement for ASIO, however I don't know if it really works or not)

The Live!/Live! 5.1 drivers

Creative have always released UDA (Unified Driver Architeture) drivers.

They purposedly ruined the Live! support in Vista: 2.1 speakers setting resulted in distorted sound.

After some investigation, I discovered the culprit module and replaced it with one from the last XP version and the problem was fixed.

In the later releases, Bass Management, Equalizer and EAX effects using software processing and Hardware MIDI support were added.
