Obviously it would depend on the receiver, but comparing similarly priced equipment I'd be tempted to say yes. Chipamps are quality for low-power applications. (It's when you start trying to crank huge power out of them that they start to distort and get nasty)

Yeah, since I'll be sitting fairly close to them, good quality low power amps will benefit me more than HT receivers.
