Got stiffed with a Q6600 B3 from FRYS.COM - Page 3

The difference between cars and CPUs is that cars have a model year. And heck yeah, you often still can get new cards from the previous model year, even if the newest is already available. You often pay less for a new 2007 model when the 2008 is out also, esp. when the 2008 model has significant improvements.

Now, for the AVERAGE user (i.e. those who DO NOT overclock, and that's the customer Fry's caters to), there is NO REAL difference between the B3 and G0 version. Also, you probably paid an amount that was pretty low for a Q6600... same as with the 2007 model car.

There is nothing wrong with Fry's selling B3's. They're good CPUs, and it's simply too bad they don't overclock as well as G0's.

Let's say Honda released a car on January '08 and sold it for 5 months until they realized that they needed to make much needed newer improvements. On August of '08, they release the same model car but it's the improved version. Come December of '08, I go to the Honda dealership to buy that specific model, would I get the earlier model or newer one? And if I got the older model, wouldn't that be a bit messed up. Shouldn't the dealership have returned the older models as of August back to Honda and get the newer ones?

Fry should have sent them back to Intel. I'm sure a big e-tailer like Fry could do that. This isn't a mom&pop e-store. It's freaking Frys for Christ's sake.
No, it is not the same. An improvement is not admitting that the older version has a failing. Just because there is a newer version that OCs better, they are under no obligation to provide you with a newer one. This happens all the time in motorsprts parts (my field). If they make a mid-line change or a part has a supersession, there is no mandate that requires you to only sell the newer one unless it is safety related.
