q6600 Temperatures Please help!

Okay im getting highly pissed and aggravated at these stupid temperatures...
I still to this day do not know *** is going on....

I just lapped The IHS on my q6600
My heatsink came with a mirror finish shine with no imperfections at all underneath it.... every other person i have spoken with said they did not need to lap the heatsink on this particular model.....so by looking at it it doesn't appear to need it at all.

I have a g0 version q6600 and its overclocked to 3.2 and i have according to cpu-z 1.264vcore on idle and 1.272 under load the Vid was 1.212 which IS AMAZING... and still i am struggling to drop these temps.....

my Idle temps are off the freaking chain sitting at 38 Degrees Celcius WOW
Everytime i put this under load the temps shoot up to a stupid 80 degrees and they keep climbing and climbing and climbing until i get so freaking pissed i shut off the stupid prime95.....
i have reseated and reseated and reseated.... and then tonight i finally lapped the IHS and i only saw a 2 degree drop in temps across all 4 cores.... ran the stress test and STILL it climbs and climbs and will not find an idle Temp.....

Please can somone help me or suggest any ideas....

take a look at your heatsink.. i know you said lots of people had theirs with no problem, but check it with a razor and see if its flat.. it might have a mirror finish, but doesn't mean its flat, you know?

ARG.... im running out of TIM !!!!

thx tho... didnt think of the razor trick... ill take it back off and see if its concave or not....

if it is.... ima be hella pissed cuz im running out of sandpaper too

i have an antec900.... probably one of the strongest air flow cases made... i tihnk maybe the coolermaster stacker might have better but i dunno.....

i have like 4 120mm intake fans and a 200mm exhaust chimney... 120 fan at the rear of case......

Also you should double check your lap job when you take it apart and also make sure you ahve the right amount o ftim on there. To little or too much will kill temps.

I'm BACK !!!!

Checked my IHS lap with a razor... flawlessly flat
Checked the heatsink... Same.... Flat as flat can be....

Minimum TIM used....

Same BS~

Chunk the heatsink and order a 500$ Heatsink !!!! ???

maybe i should quit messing around and get a true or tuniq?
i think i would lean towards true... i dont think i like the design of the TT

or does anyone have any further hints to what the prob could be??

I play games and temps stay at 44-49.... so my temps never get hot unless i try to stress for stability.... but then again i havent had any crashes during my games yet....

idle temps... 38 degress
Load temps... 80 degrees and climbing

My guess is the heatsink isn't being seated properly. Most likely it is bumping into some part of the motherboard (capacitor, maybe) that is preventing it from making full contact. When you remove the heatsink to re-seat it, how does the thermal compound look? Is it evenly spread, or are there noticeable gaps in the coverage?

If you are lapped flat and your load temps are 80C @ 3.2Ghz the installation is not correct. I know it might be frustrating but you might need to get a new HSF (I recommend a TRUE).

How tight are you screwing your V1 down? I usually make mine as tight and even as I can without going overboard and bending/breaking something. Being careful and most of all patient is key.

Alright guys.... thanks for all your help im extremely greatful...
Final outcome = Buying a True...

Ive been through 3 HSF already... i hope the True ends up being the last i buy.

Do you use the latest version of CoreTemp to measure your temps? Anyway, the TRUE is definitely going to work just fine. Use it with a good thermal paste like the AS5 and you shall be fine man!
