Worth it: step up from 8800GTS g92 to 9800GTX? - Page 2

Upgrade so I can buy your 8800GTS!

Hehehehe.

Just kidding (sort of). I'd say hang onto your 8800GTS and wait for the next generation. Then you'll notice a real difference.

The 9800GTX is like a super-clocked GTS G92. You'd be stepping up to gain only a few fps. Probably not worth it.

The release of the 9800 is just a money making exercise for NVIDIA. I'd say wait for the GT200.

I have a few questions about these two.

I'm building a new computer and don't have a PCI-E card so I'll be getting either 8800 gts 512mb or 9800gtx no matter what.

1) Does the DuOrb cooler fit the 9800gtx?
2) Does anyone know where I can get the 8800gts 512 with Crysis for under $250 after rebates? It's like two days before 9800gtx came out I could get this anywhere for sub $250 with crysis now I can't find it with Crysis anywhere for a decent price.

anyone know if the 9800GTX uses the same mounting holes as the 8800GTS 512?
If it's only going to cost you $47 to upgrade, I would say yes without hestitation.

I'm in the same boat, it would cost me about £50 to step-up to one but i'm on a PCI-E 1.0 board, would it still work/perform good?

I'm thinking about making the same move. I've almost decided to go for it, simply because of the higher quality chips (I also had an 8800 Ultra before, just because I'm a nut and had to have the better silicon compared to the GTX).

To the guy that said it has higher power consumption. It does, but the increase is so small that it's absolutely irrelevant.
