Right, exatly. I'm not certain exactly how or if the DMCA applies to hardware, but I can see no reason why people don't have the right enable the features of hardware they have purchased, if the only reason they are not already enabled is because the driver is crippled. A sound card is not a software license; you do
own that hardware.
Where driver modders probably run into trouble is that they are modding the existing drivers, which does fall under DMCA scrutiny. Now if daniel_k or whoever was able to create their own driver from scratch, Creative wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on, I don't think.
Anyway...planning a new rig, doubt I will be using a Creative sound card this time around. I definitely hate companies that suck, that are evil to their customers. Act that way even once and your reputation is tarnished for a long time...
