I buy my gas where I live... where else would I buy it? LOL.

The prices here have fluctuated over 50 cents between the ave high and low over the last 6 months. Recently they hit a new high, but its only a few cents over that of prices last summer.

And even if gas rises by even 1 penny per mile, it gets spread over 1000's over units in the same container/truck traveling that same distance. Even a 10-cent-per-mile jump wouldn't warrent more than a 1-cent rise in shipping per unit. Which is normally just eaten because the cost of manufacturing per unit drops as more units are produced.

I still stand that any jumps in Blu-Ray are based on recouping the cost of driving HD-DvD out of the picture. Selling the PS3 at a loss was a huge hit to Sony(not to mention the other things in my previous post), so I would put my money on them being the driving force behind moving overall prices up. They need to do it, and right now its still nowhere near able to reach the masses, so why not take advantage while they can?

I was going to bring that point up myself but I figured it was futile considering his previous posts, so kudos to you for doing so.

I am not a Sony fanboy by any means, in fact, the only Sony product in my house is the PS3. I do use my PS3 for gaming and BR movies, but I paid for it so I will use it to 100% of its capabilities. I don't see anything wrong with that.
I think you are going a little overboard with the whole "vigilante" thing.

Yeah, the PS3 isn't that bad, but it is just a dumb down media center PC with some half decent titles to it. I prefer my PC, but that is because I find the games on PC better anyway. But I agree, if you payed for the system, do not look at buying it specifically for BR, but for gaming, and you will see that in the end, you got MORE then what you would have payed for, if you purchased a BR player.

Most companies are looking for excuses to raise prices...although high price of gas is acceptable. Of course, ceo's might try to milk it.

Obviously you buy gas where you live, guess I kind of made that a "colloquialism", but the point was that gas prices are no where near what they were last summer, and they are going to continue on this upward trend on into the summer.

From http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/WImetro.asp, AAA's media site for retail gasoline prices:

Milwaukee-Waukesha Regular Mid Premium Diesel
Current $3.384 $3.514 $3.676 $4.067
Yesterday $3.384 $3.513 $3.675 $4.047
Month Ago $3.075 $3.193 $3.341 $3.735
Year Ago $2.684 $2.787 $2.916 $2.898

I would say, across the board, that gas is up a lot more then a few cents from last year.

Prices updated: 4/2/2008 3:54:16 AM

Sony is not the only company behind the BR camp, and the PS3 prices themselves have not gone up at all since their last price cut. If other manufacturers raise the prices of their products, why does Sony get blamed for that?

I say they are conspirizing against the buyers. Theres absolutely no competition going on and its very suspicious.

Not really, someone asks a smart ass question, "How's the butt?", they will get an answer along the same lines.

The same could be said for both the current HD gaming consoles, they are dumbed down versions of a media center PC. However, when I purchased my PS3, it was either $500 for the console/BR player/media center, or $500 for the stand alone player. Essentially, I didn't really have an option if I wanted the most bang for my buck.

I'm guessing I'm one of the 'fanboys' Stargate posted this news item for. If this is the case, explain then for me why I own more HD DVDs than blu-rays. And then explain to me why prices for blu ray players have remained right around the $400 mark for about the last 6 months.

I see articles like this all the time. But I view prices on places like Amazon and Best Buy from time to time; Prices simply haven't gone up for the regular models. Maybe for the uber high end models, but no one buys those anyway.

But alas, I'm just a lowly fanboy. Nevermind you can find all those models listed in the link for much cheaper right on Amazon.

Generally, you post news for the good of the community, not for spite.
