Creative X-Fi no real 5.1 sound and really bad central speaker

Hi

I have a x-fi xtreme gamer and put new drivers on my computer today, (I was not using my sound card before because of the multitude of problems). When I put the settings to 5.1 the music I am playing comes out crackly only from the central speakers and is significantly louder. (It is unbearable, like something from x-factor or pop idol)

Then I went to the diagnostics and tried to setup the speakers. Did a channel test and what happens is the front left and right is fine, but, in between a loud crackly voice comes from the central speaker and then onto the rear speakers, the left rear is fine but the rear right comes from the central speaker.

I’m using Logitech X-540 speakers

All the wiring is fine. Is there any way around this or is it just poor drivers?

P.S. Also when playing music if I turn the windows internal volume control to 100 and the dial on my speakers to full then the music that comes out is at half the volume that it used to when I was using my on-board volume, is there anyway this can also be fixed?

Thanks
Aurora

what is the music source, MP3? CD? most CD's are only in 2 channel output as are most MP3's, try a different input, like a game or something, my centre speaker crackles alot as well but only on certain things, i have a SOAD album rip which sounds awful as its only in 128kbps

EDIT: also dont have your onboard output any higher than 80%, gets distorted after that i find

go in to the windows sound settings and make sure that also says 5.1 I just got the x-540's hooked up to my x-fi, installed the most recent x-fi drivers, and it was outputting my rear channels to my front speakers. after making sure windows was set to 5.1 and a reboot, everything was fine.

ok tried COD4 demo and apart from the sound being really now even though my dial was maxed out, there was one god awful noise from the central speaker

I haven't tried them, the official creative drivers do everything I need. there is a 64bit version of the dk drivers, so it might be worth a try.
