wow crucial rma sucks big time - Page 2

I RMAed a set of single sided 2x1GB PC6400 ballistix to them a few weeks ago and got double sided sticks back, lucked out.

Anyway, you really have no recourse here. Their warranty does not obligate them to give you the exact same sticks, simply equivalent ones. Since the new sticks will do the speed they are rated for, they are keeping their end of the deal. In fact, since you seemed to be overclocking the originals, you probably voided the warranty without their knowledge.

It sucks, I know, but what do you expect?

Yes I understand they have a lifetime warranty and yes I think they have great customer service. Your rma probably went pretty smoothly am I right.

If your new sticks are advertised at doing 1066 with 4-4-4-12 and they dont call crucial and see whats up. If they were advertised at 1066 5-5-5-18 timings then cry me a river.

Crucial has in general great customer service. Your stuff died and they honored there warranty and now you are slandering them with this thread because you arent happy with a oc on your new ram modules that isnt even a garuntee. No different then getting a 8400 that does only 3.6ghz as compared to the average person getting 4.0ghz out of them. It happens and you can deal with it because the component is living up to its design specs.

If you dont like them then sell them on ebay and try someone elses ram. They are not the only ram out there with a lifetime warranty and with good ram.

This thread would have a point if say they had denied you warranty service, took forever to get it to you, didnt honor a rebate, or were plain rude to you online or on the phone, none of which I have ever experienced with crucial and I generally never see anyone complaining about any of these issues with them.

Sorry for the noobish question, but what's the difference between single and double-sided RAM? Is one inherently better than the other?

Hopefully laugh.

But seriously I'm sure they'd offer you the face value of them ($300 at that point, $2 when adjusted for 2008 inflation) towards new ram for the new computer you'd be needing.

No such thing as a bad question. 2sided OC's better and 1 sided won't also 1 sided seems to die alot faster.

A few weeks ago I had some rma issues with crucial. Overall I guess i am satisfied because the ram i got in return was both doublesided and thus far works flawlessly. Unfortunately the Hold times on the telephone were rediculous, and when i say that i mean , please wait an hour to talk to someone which was never the case it was more. I paid for a crosship to minimize downtime but that proved worthless as they screwed up my address and i had to call and repeat the process to update them. So by the time they sent the replacement ram they had already received my return. Maybe i got double sided cause i asked and paid in advance , maybe it really is just a matter or whether it is in stock or not. IDK, Overall I can say I am happy cause its solved now. If they fail again within an unreasonable amount of time ahh im done with them you'll see a new set in the for sale section.

IMO you got no reason to really complain, I know it sucks when stuff fails. Thats the way it is sometimes.

I have to disagree. My single sided sticks (stock, 1066MHz) hit 1243MHz on stock volts.

I have heard a lot of horror stories of dying ballistix, but no idea if they were double or single sided.

If you look a lot of companys say "limited lifetime" warranty, which means they are warrantied for as long as the company is still making them. I know its this way with Gskill and geil. Go read the full warranty info and you will find that when something becomes obselete they no longer have to replace it. I believe most of the companys are phasing out ddr ram now.
