[Question] Stick with my 2gb or get another gb?

Thread Starter
Currently I have 2gb DDR2 800mhz tracers running on vista 32bit

Should I get another gb of the same RAM or will it slow my RAM down since its not going to be dual channel (sorry if thats confusing, I dont really understand RAM lol)

Someone also told me that it depends on how much memory your GPU has got.

Mine has 640mb so my total memory would be 2.64gb, if ^^ is true then wouldn't getting another gb of RAM take me to the memory threshold of 32bit?

Would it slow the RAM down or make no difference?

Whoever told you it depends on your GPU memory lied. But if you don't have a 64bit OS it won't read more than 3.5GB or memory. It won't slow it down.

Ha!

I wouldn't put much stock in this person's advice from here on out because they obviously have no idea what they're talking about.

The two have no relation to the other as far as how much memory will be seen by your OS.

You could add another 1GB stick but as you said, you'd lose dual channel functionality. I don't have the exact numbers on 2x1GB in dual channel or 3x1GB in single channel however if you find yourself using the full capacity of your current memory then there's your answer. If you don't find yourself using the full 2GB then there's your answer in favor of the other.
